Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about the tethered challenge, Adults, Kids and K9, tickets, and how to get involved—based on published Zulu Challenge information.

General questions

What is Zulu Challenge?

Zulu Challenge is a tethered obstacle adventure held in cities across Canada. On every city day you will find three challenges: Adults, Kids and K9. Participants work through outdoor obstacles as a connected team rather than racing alone for a podium.

It is a challenge first—not a conventional race or mud run—though competitive teams are welcome and muddy or water sections appear only when the park, terrain and weather allow. For the brand story, see About. For reasons to choose the experience, see Why Choose Zulu Challenge.

What makes Zulu Challenge different?

Three things stand out. First, Adults stay tethered as a team of two or more for the full course, so communication and pacing matter. Second, Kids can take part with a parent on age-banded courses. Third, K9 teams run handler and dog together on the same city day as Adults and Kids.

The day is built around finishing with your people—not leaving teammates behind. Read more on Why Choose Zulu Challenge.

Where can I find upcoming events?

Open the public 2027 event schedule for city dates and venues. Confirmed cities list a published date and location. Coming soon and pending cities stay listed so you can request a notification when details go live.

Prefer a filter view? Use Find Your Event to narrow by province, city and Adults, Kids or K9.

Who organizes Zulu Challenge?

Zulu Challenge was founded in 2014 by Tosh Mugambi in Grande Prairie, Alberta. It began as an event for kids and grew to include Adults and K9 teams on the same outdoor event day.

Full founding context lives on About Zulu Challenge. For questions about a registration or event day, email info@zuluchallenge.com or use Contact.

Challenge formats

What is the Adults Challenge?

The Adults Challenge is a 5 km tethered course for participants aged 14 and older. You stay connected to a team of two or more for the full distance using custom harnesses and a mandatory tether.

There is no maximum team size. Exact obstacle layouts vary by venue and season and are confirmed closer to event day. Pricing, prep tips and city links are on the Adults page.

What is the Kids Challenge?

The Kids Challenge uses three age bands matched to course distance: ages 3–7 (1 km), 8–10 (2 km) and 11–13 (3 km). Choose the band that matches your child’s age on event day.

One parent or both parents can take part with their child while tethered as a team. Spectators are welcome. Full details and pricing are on the Kids page.

What is the K9 Challenge?

The K9 Challenge is for handlers and dogs who take on the course together on the same city day as Adults and Kids. All breeds are welcome and there is no age limit for dogs.

A secure harness and a hands-free leash are required. Aggressive or protective dogs must wear a muzzle at all times on course. Rules, gear and pricing are on the K9 page.

How does the tethered team concept work?

On the Adults course, teammates stay connected with custom harnesses and a mandatory tether for the full 5 km. The tether is part of the experience—you move, problem-solve and finish together.

Teams start at two people and there is no maximum size. If you register alone, you are paired with another athlete who also arrives solo. Kids can also run tethered with a parent on the Kids courses. See Adults and Kids.

Registration and tickets

How do I register?

Start on Register or the 2027 event schedule. Pick your city, open that city’s page, then follow the Eventbrite checkout button for Adults, Kids or K9.

Tickets are sold through Eventbrite. There are no refunds; credits and transfers are explained in the refund policy below. If your city is still TBA, use the notification options on Contact until registration opens.

Where can I buy tickets?

Buy tickets through Eventbrite from each city page or from the Register page. Ticket buttons leave zuluchallenge.com and finish checkout on Eventbrite.

Eventbrite handles those orders. Privacy notes about ticket checkout also appear on the Privacy page.

Are taxes or additional fees applicable?

Published website prices are subject to ticketing fees added at Eventbrite checkout. Early bird pricing through November 30, 2026 is Adults/K9 $65 CAD and Kids $40 CAD.

After early bird, regular published prices are Adults/K9 $95, Kids 3–7 $50, Kids 8–10 $55 and Kids 11–13 $60. Always confirm the live offer on Register or your city page before paying.

Events and locations

Where are upcoming events?

Upcoming public cities for the 2027 season are listed on the event schedule. Each city page shows the status of that stop: confirmed date and venue, coming soon, or pending.

Adults, Kids and K9 are offered in every city day once that city runs. Compare cities and open Eventbrite from Register when tickets are on sale.

How do I find my city?

Use Find Your Event to filter verified 2027 events by province, city and challenge type. You can also scroll the full list on Events.

When you find your city, open its page for hours, venue details (when published) and registration links.

What happens if an event location or date changes?

Always treat the city event page as the current public source for that stop’s date and venue. If a city is still listed as coming soon or pending, use the notification options on Contact so you hear when details are published.

If you already hold a registration and need help with a credit or transfer after a change, email info@zuluchallenge.com with proof of registration. Refunds are not offered; credit and transfer rules are in the policy section below.

Preparation and participation

How should participants prepare?

Start with the challenge page that matches your registration: Adults, Kids or K9. Those pages explain distances, ages, team rules and published prep notes for that format.

Exact obstacle layouts vary by venue and season and are confirmed closer to event day—not as fixed packages on this FAQ. Practical reading also lives on the Journal, including beginner and first-timer guides.

What should K9 participants bring?

Bring a secure harness and a hands-free leash for both the handler and the dog. Those items are required for the K9 Challenge.

Aggressive or protective dogs must wear a muzzle at all times on course. All breeds are welcome and there is no age limit for dogs. Read the full published K9 rules on the K9 page before event morning.

What should participants expect on event day?

Expect an outdoor park event day where Adults, Kids and K9 all run. Friends and family can watch—spectators are welcome—and city parks typically offer free parking.

Hours, venue name and registration links are listed on each city page in the event schedule. Course features such as mud or water appear only when the park, terrain and weather allow.

Safety and policies

What are the participation age requirements?

Adults must be 14 or older on the Adults Challenge. Kids use three age bands: 3 to 7, 8 to 10 and 11 to 13, matched to 1 km, 2 km and 3 km courses.

K9 has no age limit for dogs. Confirm your category on Adults, Kids or K9 before you buy tickets.

What happens in bad weather?

Muddy sections and water on course are used only when the park, terrain and weather allow. That means some course features may be adjusted for conditions on event day.

For the latest status of a specific city stop, check that city’s page on the event schedule before you travel, or email info@zuluchallenge.com if you need confirmation about your registration.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

There are no refunds on Zulu Challenge tickets. Instead, you receive credit for another city or for the next season.

Registrations are transferable by email when you send proof of registration to the Zulu Challenge team. Start from your city page or Register, then email info@zuluchallenge.com if you need a transfer or credit. Full details: Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Are there special requirements for K9 participants?

Yes. K9 participants must use a secure harness and a hands-free leash. Aggressive or protective dogs must wear a muzzle at all times while on course.

All breeds are welcome and there is no age limit for dogs. The K9 Challenge runs beside Adults and Kids in every city day. Full published rules are on the K9 page.
